I outline the central ideas of Bernard Gert's moral system and discuss his application of it to a current debate in computer ethics. Gert claims that it is immoral to copy software illegally for a friend. I consider several objections that are likely to arise regarding Gert's argument for this claim, and conclude that these objections can be successfully turned aside. I then show how his argument can be extended to explain how some other common rationales for illegally copying software are also mistaken, and the actions based on them morally unjustified.
