Analytics and Data Science is not one of the traditional fields of study at the undergraduate level, but that is changing. In recent years, colleges and universities around the country and worldwide have begun developing bachelor’s level programs in the field, and the trend is accelerating. This presents managers with new opportunities to engage with students early in their career development. In this chapter, we discuss the unique opportunities and challenges of working with an undergraduate population, with a focus on getting the most out of analytics internships. We also discuss undergraduate capstone courses and present two case studies of successful analytics internships. The chapter concludes with a checklist of things that every manager should consider when engaging undergraduate students.
