My research focus during my academic career and training has been primarily in applied environmental microbiology including detection, quantification, identification, and activity assessment of microorganisms in natural and engineered environments. In recent years, I have been engaged in stormwater management research. I have secured more than $5M in external research funding (as PI and Co-PI), published numerous journal papers and book chapters, and have presented my research findings at national and international conferences. Throughout my academic career, I have collaborated with other institutions (University of Michigan, Texas A&M) and other disciplines (Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical and Environmental Engineering). Funding sources have included the NSF, DARPA, SERDP, Great Lakes Protection Fund, and EPA.
